The SMC AS2052F-07 is a high-flow In-Line Speed Controller. Unlike the previous models that screw directly into a cylinder port, this is a Union-type controller. It is installed "in-line" between two pieces of tubing. It features 1/4" OD one-touch fittings on both ends and a large, knurled adjustment knob in the center. This is a bi-directional body but a uni-directional controller: it throttles air in one direction and allows free flow in the other.
